19TH C. NATIVE AMERICAN NAVAJO POTTERY COFFEE POT**Originally Listed At $400**
Native American, Southwestern United States, Navajo (Dine) people, ca. 19th to early 20th century CE. A hand-built pottery coffee pot, simple and utilitarian, with dark smoke clouds and scorch marks from years of use over an open fire. The spout has a built-in strainer with pin hole perforations and originally there was probably a matching lid for brewing "cowboy coffee." Before European contact, caffeinated beverages made from yaupon holly or cocoa were consumed by people of the Americas, and coffee or "black medicine" became popular with Native peoples after the bean's introduction. Size: 6" Diameter x 6.3" H (15.2 cm x 16 cm)
